Stonewall Forever Screening at the YWCA
The YWCA of Asheville, in partnership with Youth OUTRight, is hosting a screening of the Stonewall Forever documentary on Monday 6/26 from 5-6pm. Stonewall Forever is produced by the NYC Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. More about the film from the Center's website: “The history of the Stonewall Riots is equally as cherished as it is charged. There are questions of who was there, who "threw the first brick" and who can claim Stonewall. This film doesn’t answer these questions but instead it aims to expand the story of Stonewall by including more voices in its telling. Stonewall Forever, the documentary, brings together voices from over 50 years of LGBTQ activism to explore the ongoing legacy of Stonewall.” Those voices include Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson, two BIPOC trans women who fought for inclusion and representation in a movement that too often tried to erase them. Click on Rivera and Johnson's names to learn more about these trailblazing women. Light refreshments will be provided. After the film there will be time for small group discussion of the film and these events in the history of the Pride movement. This event will be wheelchair accessible; captioning provided; gender-neutral bathrooms available; fragrance-free facility. Face masks are strongly encouraged. Masks will be available. We look forward to seeing you there! RSVP HERE.
Content Advisories include explicit language, examples of anti-LGBTQIA+ violence and police brutality, nudity, and racialized violence.
Join us on Monday, June 26, from 5 - 6 in the Multi-purpose room of the YWCA.
