2019 Women's March on Asheville
YWCA of Asheville is proud to march in the 2019 Women's March on Asheville on Sunday, January 20th in downtown Asheville. We invite our community to march with us. Please meet at 10:30 am in front of Pack's Tavern to march together in solidarity with the mission of the Women’s March:
"The mission of Women’s March is to harness the political power of diverse women and their communities to create transformative social change. Women’s March is a women-led movement providing intersectional education on a diverse range of issues and creating entry points for new grassroots activists & organizers to engage in their local communities through trainings, outreach programs and events. Women’s March is committed to dismantling systems of oppression through nonviolent resistance and building inclusive structures guided by self-determination, dignity and respect."
We also want to share this statement from YWCA USA: "In light of recent concerns and news reports about anti-Semitism and financial transparency, we have undertaken considerable due diligence regarding our continued support of the Women’s March, including direct conversations with lead organizers of the March and with our peer organizations in the women’s advocacy, racial justice and social justice spaces. We are pleased to see strong statements denouncing anti-Semitism and bigotry prominently posted on the homepage of the Women’s March, which have also been reflected in the various conversations that we have had. Our decision to continue to support the January 19th Women’s March events is based on the existing alignment between YWCA’s work to empower women and advance racial justice, and core issues that are central to the Women’s March policy platform. As with other national partnerships, our engagement with the Women’s March is both long-term and substantive: we have and will continue to focus on the policy issues that further our mission to eliminate racism and empower women, while we do the long-term, hard work of building a truly inclusive movement."
