This year, in our Stand Against Racism Campaign we invite you to join us by rallying to make change for communities of color and telling the world We Can’t Wait: Equity and Justice Now!Our collective efforts can root out injustice, transform institutions, and create a world that sees women, girls, and people of color the way we do: Equal. Powerful. Unstoppable.Join us during April, as we hold virtual events, share information, advocate, and more with a common goal in mind. We see this critical work as necessary to uprooting systemic inequity in communities of color.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Starting April 4th: This year, our theme is led by the Stand Against Racism Challenge, which offers anyone the chance to participate in and help foster a virtual community of growth and learning around social, systemic, and institutional racial inequity.The deep-seated systemic racism and inequities that disadvantage communities of color are still woven into the fabric of our institutions today—from civic engagement to economic opportunity and security, from education to health care, and even the way people of color are portrayed in the media. We must work collectively to root out inequity in our communities and in the institutions that compose our society, and demand justice and equity. Previously known as the 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge, the Stand Against Racism Challenge: A Virtual Community of Growth is the same program developed by YWCA and adopted nationwide. April 7th, 14th, 21st; noon - 1:30 pm: YWCA's Racial Justice Community Workshop where community members are invited to join the YWCA to learn about racial justice concepts and develop a deeper understanding of racism.Click here to REGISTER
April 27th & 28th: Join the Ethical Humanist Society of Asheville on a Trip to Legacy and Lynching Museums in Montgomery, Alabama via bus on April 27 & 28, 2022 with an overnight stay in Montgomery.LEARN MORE
Friday, April 29th: Stand Against Racism at The Hop Ice Cream Café. The Hop Ice Cream Café will be donating 10% of sales from all locations on 4/29 to Stand Against Racism. Please visit one of their 4 retail locations to take part.

Saturday, April 30th: Ava DuVernay’s documentary “13th” chronicles how our justice system has been driven by racism from the days of slavery to today’s era of mass incarceration. The film is named for the constitutional amendment that abolished slavery with the exception of punishment for crime. Today, the United States accounts for 5 percent of the world’s population, but 25 percent of its prisoners. In 2020, more than 2 million people were incarcerated in the United States—of those, 40 percent were Black even though they only make up 13% of the population. On this Saturday during Stand Against Racism, we challenge you to watch the film and then to take some time to reflect on your learning by utilizing this discussion guide.
